A fantastic audience recording makes for an enjoyable listen. First set has some solid play all around, Jerry seems pretty into it. 2nd set starter with Terrapin is great. For what many consider to be a less than year for the band, this is a really good show.

With no walls of an arena or stadium to muck about with the sound, this was a crystal clear and delicious audio experience. Hence the gorgeous presence and clarity of the audience recordings.
Agreed re the Let It Grow. Damn special.
Oh yeah, and they were selling beer by the case. Miller I think. Ahhhh.... Texas.

The sound effects you are all referring to (i.e.: "Bobby" and others) were recorded by Brent Mydland and he used to play them during shows - I think to drive Bobby nuts. I remember them mostly in the mid-1980s - this show stands out and I remember them at Alpine Valley a lot. I remember thinking at the time, I thought I was hearing things - but it was all real thanks to Brent. I was at this show and it was amazing - but the Starlight Theater Kansas City show a few days later was my favorite show ever - and I saw a lot of them...!

I think this was my first show. Did they play Manor Downs in 84? It might have been 84.
Funniest thing happened (for a first timer). We were right up front and some fully naked guy in a cowboy hat was causing all kind of mayhem ! It didn't matter - we were all flyin!!

Harry Popick. Monitor engineer. I may see him in SF this week, and I'll ask him this question. I agree, great Let it Grow

The voice over people are refering to actually is some woman blowing a kiss and saying "Bobby". If you go to the 6-14-85 show that seems to be the origin of these, what we would call, MIDI samples. I believe this summer tour was the first year they had the capabilities to make other sounds because of the new MIDI system equipment. I've noticed a lot of different sounds on Weir's guitar, mostly on Dupree's. For those who don't know, it stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface.
You know Phil got a six string bass for Christmas '82 and it sounds like Healy got a lot for Christmas '84 and learned to use them in '85.
As far as this show, average recording and playing. I'm partial to boards, but I do highly respect Oade recordings.

Dan Healy added all of those sound effects live.
One of the best Let It Grow's ever.
Wait until a new Master Sennheiser 441 source appears (with no wind noise).

Jerry recovered pretty nicely from the (to my ears and eyes) debacle in Houston. After a strong Half Step opener, they fumble around for most of the first set, then rally for a great Jack-a-Roe and Let It Grow. The whole second set, esp. Terrapin>Estimated, and the encore, is very strong. Great Oade recording!!
PS the sound effects is the same "Harry, Harry" female voiceover that Healy was messing around with most of the summer. One can assume it's monitor man Harry Popich (?) that Healy's busting on. It is a bit much.

While this show is heavy on sound effects, it's a great audience recording, as are all of Oade's I've heard. It's not going to change the mids of those stuck-on-Soundboards, but it's pretty amazing to have a great PCM crowd tape from the summer of '85.
The Althea, while not sung perfectly, is very strong.
